5 Sunrise on the Eiger, Berner Oberland, Switzerland.

Arrive at the beautiful Stellisee shortly after the start of the walk!
5 A  view of the Matterhorn from the Stellisee.
OPTION 1
Sunnegga to Blauherd
Start
: Sunnega (7,507 ft)
End
: Blauherd top station (8,435 ft)
Estimated time: 2.5 to 3 hours
Elevation gain: Gain of 1,274 ft; loss of 341 ft
Highest point: Blauherd (8,435 ft)
Total distance: 2.7 miles (4.3 km)
From Sunnegga, descend to the small, shallow Leisee. The trail then begins a steady but evenly-graded ascent. Descend slightly just before reaching the Grindjisee where you can enjoy views that would be perfect on the cover of a box of Swiss chocolates! From the Grindjisee, the trail continues its ascent to the Stellisee from where it’s a half mile stroll to the upper station of the Blauherd cable car. Ride the cable car back down to Sunnegga and continue descending to Zermatt via the Sunnegga funicular.
Classic Matterhorn view from Findeln
5 Matterhorn from Findeln.
OPTION 2
Sunnegga to Zermatt via Findeln
Start
: Sunnega (7,507 ft)
End: Zermatt (5,269 ft) via Grindjisee, Blauherd, Findeln
Estimated time: 4-5 hours
Elevation gain: Gain of 1,274 ft; loss of 2,579 ft
Highest point: Blauherd (8,435 ft)
Total distance: 5.25 miles (8.5 km)
Alpine lakes, open meadows, mountain views and picturesque high-country hamlets can all be enjoyed on this walk. The first portion of this walk is identical to Option 1. After you descend to Sunnegga from Blauherd via the cable car, take time out to enjoy lunch on the sunny terrace of the Sunnegga Restaurant. Thus fortified, you can begin the second portion of this walk that will return you to Zermatt via the hamlets scattered across the Findelalp. Clusters of alpine huts and barns at Eggen and Ze Gassen offer classic views of the Matterhorn soaring into the skies above Zermatt. The final portion of the trail leads you via switchbacks through the cool, shady forests that blanket the western slope of the Mattertal and deposits you at Winkelmatten from where you follow narrow streets and paths back to your hotel in Zermatt, 15 minutes further on.
